The Cyber Security and Data Privacy Forum was held in 17 November 2016 with the aim to discuss issues in the sector and how the public and private sectors can work together to address these. The audience received speeches and presentations from relevant industry representatives on the topic.
Atty. Jamael Jacob, Director for Policy, represented the National Privacy Commission as the keynote speaker, who discussed key points including the role of the NPC, provisions in and scope of the Data Privacy Act and the IRR, role of the private sector and the importance of its cooperation with the government in achieving free flow of information, and the Data Privacy Management Guide.
For best practices, the participants received presentations from Mr. Nino Valmonte of IP Converge and Mr. Herns Hermida of Microsoft Philippines, who talked about how companies can formulate their data policies, manage data sensitivity, and assess risks, among others.
The Panel discussed the development and next steps of both the public and private sector in the achievement of and initiatives towards better compliance to the rules and policies concerning cyber security and data privacy.
